Reposted on behalf of Colin ( And to stop lord B having a go at him)

00:51 AM Dianne who on earth designed the new layout for the store. It is absolutely pathetic. Fair enough tobacco counter and pharmacy in right place but the rest is a shambles. There are now two dead corners to the store - top left home and wear corner and the far top right - very rare see anybody around the frozen food corner. The shop does not flow easy now. I bet it was a man - as a building surveyor I think for interior design and layout a female is far more competant at this work as they have the flare for it. I think a woman would have done a far better job of design layout and the products/shelves would be better laid out. Initially bread and vegetables are placed in the trolly and then the heavier tinned produce, milk, etc. on top thereby squashing the softer more delicate produce. Next management meeting raise this point and see what they say. Incidentally do you attend the team meetings held on Saturday mornings all huddled on the steps at the top left corner of the shop. Surely there could be a room for them rather than in the corner like frightened animals waiting to be slaughtered.

Ok Colin, i will try to explain the forward thinking for the store layout. For onething it was very difficult to do as they try to give all stores the same layout. Unfortunately for us the store is 35 years old and has NEVER in that time ever reffited. The original plan was to knock it down and rebuild, but as you are probably aware, there is an Asda due to open on the 21 December, which would have resulted in us loseing approx 50% of our customer compared to the exspected 10%. I think the new plan is that in 3 years time there will be a new shinny store but for the time being it is all crammed in. As for the freezers, These are the new type and out the back are generators so they need to goo against a wall or very near to one. It makes it easy for us to find a problem if there is one. Also in the past the freezers never generated much money for the store so we are building up custom slowley from them.

As for the managers meeting well it used to be held in the training room by Sir Terry decided we needed to be a presence on the shop on main tradeing days, so we now huddle daily at 10am and 3.45pm As for the nonfood area, again this new for the store, but i can tell you it is bringing in a lot of revanew.

It is surprising the number of people who prefer the old Tesco to the new store in Cowbridge Road. It is far more convenient and easier to get at. Plus the two hours free parking for town use (sh don't tell any one about that). It would be a pity if it were to close as it is small enough to be almost personalised shopping. The staff are also more friendly and helpful.

PS when is the price of diesel coming down - it is too high now for us retired people to afford to run a car and tow a caravan?

We don't know when we are going to have a price changed. Basically when the company decides to do this we get a host message(like email but our own system) down and we have 2 hours to do this.

Diane,

Did you hear about the travellers' site that appeared within the grounds of the Upper Boat (Treforest) Tesco store? I was told they appeared there last week, and set up opposite the garage. Bet Tesco were really pleased.....

Believe it or not this is a common problem and it happens quite a lot. Useually the store manager will go over and ask them how long the intend to be there and will try to keep things friendley. If the travelers get nasty then the old bill is called in to deal with them. Because this is a common problem there is already a highcourt injunction to move them on from any Tesco property or land. But most of the time it is an overnight stop and the said store manager will turn a blind eye as long as they leave thing tidy and are no trouble, which nine times out of ten they are not.

Some 15 years ago the government of the day compelled all local authorities to build travellers sites with toilet/shower blocks and laundry facilities. A law was passed that once this was done local authorities, through bailiffs and other law enforcement agencies could get illegally camped travellers off peoples land without resorting to the courts and the long drawn out, costly legal processes.

Has anyone noticed any difference to 15 years ago????????

About three mile from where I live is a council site for travellers with brick utility buildings for each van etc however despite the regular claim of 'give us sites' it has been empty for around five years since the occupants went beserk and totally destroyed the place and all its facilities.

Plotter- what you have to do is fill in a product request. We sell the decaff stuff in my store so will get you a TPN (Tesco Product Number) for it this afternoon, (am on late night). It could be that they did not have enough sales to warrent shelf space and the product has been removed from the planogram. As i don't work in your local store i can't access thier info.

Am a Garage manager- was a stock control manager.

Dianne Tesco now only seem to sell the ordinary Kenco Decaff ,we shop every week at tesco and get frustrated at the number of times where we buy an item on a regular basis and then bingo they stop selling it,more and more now we are topping up elsewhere and given the 25 mile round trip to Tesco I regret it is likely to be goodbye soon.

Availibity of products is not now down to the store. Last year the ability to to add or discontinue products was taken away and now this can only be done by the stock control centre at head office. It also has to endorsed by the store manager and we have to send off a very long winded form to do this. You get me the list of what you want and give me the store name and i will see if i can log on to thier system as a guest to see whats happening. I think i can do this as i have a store managers log on as i run a garage and it is a store on its own.P.S.Can you do this before 2pm today and i will look into it this afternoon. EVERY LITTLE HELPS!

OK Heres your coffee update. Yes They still make it, no most store don't stock it. Reason is Kraft will not give us a good deal on it. You can order it, but i would also get my friends to put in product request for it too. If more than 3 people request a product then the store is compelled to get it in. Hope this helps( Do me a favour but don't tell anyone from Tesco where you got the info, cos i should'nt really have logged on to thier store).

Diane, thankyou for your efforts. It puzzles me that they say they are still making which they told me also when I contacted their HO but I can't find any anywhere but even more of a puzzle is they cant or wont tell me who they supply it to you would think they would be keen to sell it.I dont suppose your Kraft contact can find out,if I could get a distributor name I could ask them.I would probably buy up to 48 jars at a time so long as they have enough date left.

You don't need to. You can actually purchase this at a case quantity(12) as a special order. Basically they will order one case direct from Kraft. Ask/ring tesco as this can be done on the phone it will take about 24/36 hours to come in.
