A8000 Edinbrugh - Still there?

Its a few years since I travelled north over the Forth Road Bridge. I would drive around Edinbrugh following the A720 north. At one point the dual carriageway and motorways gave way to the bottleneck A8000 and a maze of roundabouts on the approach to the Bridge.

We are heading north again and I just wondered if road works have been completed and the approach to the bridge has improved.

Anyone got the latest information please.

Kind regards - Linda

The roadworks were completed around September 2007 and A8000 bypassed by M9 Motorway. After a successful public campaign tolls and hence toll booths were removed from all the road bridges in Scotland.

Yes indeed, it is a motorway all the way now.

However, the bad news is that they are having roadworks on the A720, the Bypass lasting about 3 weeks. This means 1 lane around Dreghorn Junction. Try to avoid rush hour as it is even busier than normal. Also, if you are travelling on the A703 Carlisle to Edinburgh road, it is closed at Hillend to lay anew water main. There are diversions through Straiton. Apart from that everything is normal, Edinburgh is dug up at every junction and the tram lines are costing even more. Have a Good Day, as they say.
