We are towing our Lunar Lexon EB up to Onich, nr. Fort William, on Boxing Day and would like to know if the A82 at the Northern end of Loch Lomond is as "TRICKY" as was mentioned earlier in the Practical Caravan "because of the narrowness of the road and the bends", and the best way would be, as our previous site owners told us "We advise you to AVOID the A82 between Tarbet and Crianlarich when towing a caravan or in a motorhome!

A BETTER ROUTE Leave the A82 in Tarbet and bear left towards Inveraray following the A83. In Inveraray, turn right under the archway on to the A819 towards Dalmally, where you turn left to join the A85 towards Oban.

We did follow the above route, but would like to cut down on miles and time taken. Can anyone help?

I`ve towed the Loch Lomond route numerous times, and honestly can`t see what the problem is.

Many posters on here think it is too narrow, and take alternative routes.

Myself, i don`t have an issue with the road, it is quite tight in places, but is used by HGVs and coaches 7 days a week, and on the narrow bends there is adequate room to get by, plus you aren`t going round the bends at 50mph anyway.

There are far narrower roads to sites in Wales and Cornwall which don`t attract the same attention, and its far easier than towing, for instance, through a town. If you`re not happy doing the latter, then you may be happier choosing another route, but then again if you if you don`t want to tow through towns, or in traffic, or the occasional narrow road you possibly wont see some of the nicer sites away from the major routes. And possibly question if you are enjoying what you are doing in the first place.

As I said, this is only my point of view.

Monica

The A82 along loch lomondside is OK just take care and do not go flying into blind bends, what puts a lot of people off is the sheer rock on one side in some places. I regularly drive large coaches on this road and as yet (touch wood) have never had any mishaps bad roads are only as bad if the driving is bad.

By the way we are going to Onich on 29th may see you there.

Avoid peak times in summer, on this stretch. The problem is the high number of lhd coaches which encroach onto the wrong side on the many bends and corners.

Other times of year it's fine, very scenic.
