Last week the Swift group internet site had details of Abbey vans but any mention of Abbey has now mysteriously disapeared. I phoned Swift today but the person I spoke to was very evasive. Does anyone know what is going on?

Hi Mike

The Abbey brand along with Ace and Bessacar have been discontinued by Swift Group.

Abbey, Ace, Sterling and Swift are basically the same caravans with cosmetic differences and Swift appear to have stopped making Abbey and Ace caravans in a cost cutting excersise and to avoid competing with their own brands as BL did in the 1970s.

Thanks for this chaps. I have just bought a 3 year old Abbey Cardinal 318 rom Davans in Weston super Mare, which I am taking down to Penzance this coming Saturday. If all these vans are basically the same, then can I take it that spares and such-like won't be a problem for the future ? I have sunk most of my money into this van, so I am a bit nervous !

We bought our Abbey Cardinal 620 from Davans in Weston and Swift Group have posted on various caravan forums assurances that spares and servicing will not be affected for owners of caravans where the brand is discontinued.

The spare parts are common to all Swift caravans except Bessacar but they carried on using the old names to capitalise on brand loyalty.

According to Swift, Abbey and Ace are a Swift product and will subject to the same backup as Swift or Stirling vans.

l also bought Ace Firestar in October just before Swift anounced that they would cease production in 2010 for both Ace and Abbey, bet the dealer's new at the time that these two vans would be discontinued.

l am not sure if l would have gone for the Swift or the Stirling if l had known they were about to stop production of both the Abbey or Ace, as her indoors liked the furnishings of the Ace, looked at all repective models in the Swift group but the wife felt the Ace looked better in side, sorry to go on.
