Abbey Wood, London

I am thinking of visiting the Caravan Club site at Abbey Wood in London.

Can anybody offer any feedback on this site i.e. noise levels, security etc.

Thanks in anticipation

It is some years since we visited this club site and that was on one occasion only. Unfortunately, it is situated in the middle of a housing estate to begin with. Secondly, the local youths caused so many problems that security guards with GSDs were on 24 hour patrol. It may have changed, but I doubt it - youths grow up but are replaceable! Have a word with the site direct and see if these still apply.

It was a few years ago that we stayed but we liked it there and did not experience the problems that Ann had. Since our visit it has been completely upgraded and I understand that security has been enhanced. Given that it is in an urban area I did not think noise levels were to bad. When we went it had a semi tamw fox in residence!

barking, just been there for new year, pitch number 10

superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

arrived on friday28 december till jan 1-tuesday

security is top notch, there is a perimeter fence with camera every 100 feet,a electric gate that is closed at 10-pm so you need a password to get in via a small gate, should you be out after this time you leave your car in the late night arrival area

no noise from surrounding houses etc or youths.can walk to abbey wood train station,8 minutes, then get the train into london, off peak-

easter three yearas ago - had a brilliant stay no problems at all. Played the tourist bit throughout London. Tubes were OK, but thats all you expect.

No problems in recommending this site, no second thoughts about going again in the future.

Only one draw back while we were there...not just one but two woodpeckers drilling holes into trees , having a bit of a competition. After a bit of neck ache we found them in two trees about 50 yards apart, even they felt safe !

Stayed at this site last August, and although it is off a housing estate once your on site you wouldn't belive it.

we stayed for the full week and at no time did we encounter any problems about security, and as one of the other listing states it does have security gates & fencing.

i wouldnt hesitate in using this site agian if i was visitng London again. from the site we drove to the O2 arena which is about 6 miles away,(

Barking,

I don't know what site Ann stayed on, but I can say without fear of contradiction the Abbey Wood site is definitely, definitely NOT in the middle of a housing estate!

It is in Federation Road Abbey Wood SE2, the front of the site (entrance) is in Federation Rd the site itself is within the bounds of the woodland not far from the site of the ruins of Lesness Abbey, hence the area's name Abbey Wood.

How can I be sure of that info, I lived in Abbey Wood for 20 years, 6 years in Knee Hill Crescent, not more than 100 metres from the camp site.

We moved to west Sussex in 1995 (to be near the sea as my other passion is sailing) but we still go back to Abbey Wood to visit relatives & friends & when we do we always stay on the site.

The site is within the urban conurbation of London & its true to say that the whole area is somewhat run down, mainly due to the looney lefties who run Greenwich borough council, but that's another story altogether.

Don't let Ann's comments put you off, the site is a credit to the wardens & to the CC!

Enjoy your stay!
