Hi Everyone,

I know absolutely NOTHING about caravans and caravaning but I am here because I am thinking about taking the plunge. I'll be honest and confess that for many years I would no more have considered owning a caravan than I would have flying under water. Two young kids and mellowing out has changed that and very pleased I am about it too.

I am here because I want to learn, what are the things I should be looking for, what is important etc etc and this seemed like a good place to start the journey. I live in the Czech Republic but am an exiled Brit hence why I found this site first.

I look forward to reading the contributions of all forum contributors and who knows, maybe before too long, taking the plunge.

Hi welcome to the forum. You will find lots of advice on here. If you are really not sure if caravanning is for you (whats not to like!

) then perhaps borrowing or renting a van for a holiday may save you money in the long run. There are places to hire from in the UK; don't know what it is like in your neck of the woods. If you have decided to take the pluhge your first step is to work out the weight that your car can tow, then think about layout. Age will be determined by your budget but remember that condition is more impotant than age.
Hope this is a start for you. Do keep asking questions.

Hi Shuggiemack

Welcome to the start of a great pastime.

This Forum and those of the two clubs will offer you plenty of advice.

Years ago SWMBO went on a two day Caravan Club towing course. She learnt so much even I was put in my place.

When choosing a layout do take your time and think carefully . Does tick all your boxes.
Personal choice lays a big part.

Thanks for the welcoming words. I am just back from a two week holiday in South of France and I was looking at the peoples caracvans when I was there. It would appear that there is no shortage of choice! I certainly have some research to do. Amazed at the tight spaces some people manage to get them into, there must be some kind of supplemental manouvering aid or everyone is a body builder !

Many caravanners use a motor mover for manouvering their caravan, there's more information about them Here
