We got up early today in order to visit a couple of nature reserves on Anglesey. The first one Penrhos Coastal Park is just outside of Holyhead and is a mix of woodland and coastal. There are Red Squirrels in the woodland and a specific area to view/ photo them on lower level feeders. Good walking trails and some are specifically marked as accessible, especially the ones leading to the squirrel viewing areas. Easy parking, good facilities and a nice cafe on the entrance road. Plus free parking.
The other is the Wales National Nature Reserve near Newborough which has the glorious Traeth Llanddwyn beach. It’s Blue Flag, but with some dog friendly areas too. There’s many trails for walking or cycling combining the coastal beaches and extensive pine forests. The car park is close to one area of the beach as are the facilities. Good accessible trails and dedicated BBQ area. You pay for parking on departure at £2 for two hours and 40p each twenty minutes thereafter up to a maximum of £7.
Mountains tomorrow along to Nantmor and to walk a stretch of the Aberglaslyn Pass; subject to weather being kind.
