Can anyone confirm whether it is 'normal' that the water pump in our 2002 Ace Jubilee Globetrotter only works if the battery is fully charged?? Should we be able to switch it to mains only? If so how??!! Had a problem with the battery charger and only found out then - previously we thought it was on mains supply?! Not had this caravan long so still finding our way around it - neither of us are technically minded so don't fully understand the workings of caravans/hook ups/battery etc. Have looked at hand book but are no wiser! Never had any problems with 'old Abbey' caravan!

The water pump works on 12V via the battery.

If your van is new it should have a charger that can be used without a battery in circuit but older van chargers need a battery in circuit to smooth out the charge.

It should then work the pump

You can not work the pump on mains 230V only without a charger unit to produce the 12V supply

Hope that helps

I would have thought that car charger would do if you switched it on for long enough to charge the battery and then ran the battery down a little before repeating

It depends on how much you are going to use the van but you could see how it went with the above.

A car accessory dealer/Halfords etc would tell you the performance of a given charger.

Thanks! We'll give it a try!
