In the past have always used camping cheques but thought this year would give ACSI card a try, have now got book and card. We are planning on visiting France for 1 month mid August to mid September. Question is can we book the sites in advance and get the discount rate ie 11,13,15 euros or is it like camping cheques where you can't book. We have never gone this time of year usually go late Spring/Summer and are wondering about the availability of sites later in the year the plan is to spend time La Rochelle area and then on to St Emillion (Bordeaux area) before working our way back to Calais.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Hi Tobago

Have used ACSI cards for last 2 years..... but remember they can only be used out of season for the discount prices.....check the website for details.

Most of the sites used are in the good to v.good variety.

Have look at the ACSI site for pics of the site and also use the links to go to look at the site website direct.

For good sites also look at Castels sites.

From our experience you do not seem to need to book sites unless in the French holiday period when they can be manic !

Good luck

Hi Simon - Thanks for your reply, Yes I agree about Castel sites we have used them and they are very good. ~My query about advance booking is are you allowed to pre-book and still get the discount. We are particularly concerned about St Emillion as we have a particular site that we want to stay at and we would hate not to get a pitch.

Seems a bit patchy. A couple of sites we tried would not pre-book for us as they said it was first come first served as we were getting a discount price, fair enough I suppose.

At an excellent site Biaritz mid June last year, took about 200 vans and there were only 3 units onsite. Stay out of season and we have not found a problem at all. Try e-mail the site, but we had some trouble them even replying unless was in French.... au revoir

We are in Southern Austria at the moment and I emailed sites, 2 nights ago, in Northern Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Holland with ACSI Camping Card including Guines in France too booking for further on in our return to the UK Journey. Have had a reply and confirmation of booking from all sites.

You really cannot beat this card we have been using it from the first year it was introduced in 2004.

Just got back from 30 night trip in Germany, Denmark, Holland and the last 2 nights in Belgium, ACSI card all the way as ever.

Have been using for 3 years and have never booked a site, just turn up mid afternoon, no problem. After all the card is for out of season use, so the campsite owners know that they won't be full or they wouldn't be offering to take it on that date? Some sites we were they only unit there, most had half a dozen staying, and in Holland it was school hols so about 3/4 full.

30 nights for 450 Euros, and the return Norfolkline ferry for

We always email ahead aswe have an 8 metre caravan and like to know they will take large vans and that the access is OK for it.

At the moment on the site in Southern Austria where we are is over 3/4 full and the one further along, which is ACSI, is too. All German or Dutch we are the only Brits. Only one other couple in a Motor Home been here since we arrived 22nd April.
