No spare wheel with my new (to me) 3yr old Fendt. Anyone know if Adaptaplate spare wheel adaptors are still commercially available or even something similar?. They look like wheel spacers and are made of cast alloy (I think) and drilled to mate a number of hub/wheel combinations. I am sure I can easily get hold of a new spare wheel but I rather like the idea of utilising the car spare should I get a flat. anyone who is curious about what I am on about can find a couple of four stud ones on ebay. I would need 5 stud.

I'd be extremely wary of any product like the one you are describing. It increases the wheel offset and therefore it must also increase the load on the wheel bearings. Because of the change in offset it will also affect clearances to the wheel arch. Besides, and most importantly, the car tyre will, more likely than not, not have a load carrying capacity that is adequate for the caravan even if it should happen to be of the same size.

In view of the likely pitfalls of using an *Adaptaplate" I consider that even offering something like that is irresponsible on the part of the manufacturer and may even be illegal.

Good points lutz and well made. Even if I were to get hold of one of these things then I am sure I would hold it in the same scant regard as the spacesaver on the wifes MX5, only really useful to get you to the next garage.

Hi Victor.

I understand your concept but like Lutz I would not reccomend using an adaptor for three very good reasons.

1/ Using a car tyre that is more than likely not strong enough will only result in more problems. Also if the car tyre is not the same size and ply rating as the caravan tyre on the same axle, it is illegal and you will get prosecuted gaining points to your license.

2/ Your caravan manufacturer would not cover any claims from using propriatory devices.

3/ Your insurance companies for both the car and the caravan would also use a get out of jail card for them should a claim ensue.

So even if it does cost
