Adult only sites in West Scotland

Hi

We are wanting to visit Scotland next year and would like any suggestions for sites - we prefer Adult only for the peace & quiet and sites which are on the smaller side. Not too bothered about where it is but have been told the West side is best?

Hi Graham,

2 sites spring to mind.

1) Glenmidge Smithy, Auldgirth, Dumfries.DG2 0SW.e-mail glenmidge.smithy@virgin.net You can also get details from Dumfries & Galloway tourist information.

2) Ledketty CL at Dunning,Auchterarder, Perth & Kinross. PH2 0QN. Page 549 of CC Handbook.

Both are small, adult only, well kept, showers & toilet, and very quiet.

Hope this helps.

Hi. Further North and a bit towards the east is the C&CC site at Speyside by Craigallachie. This is not adults only but it is not the type of site that would especially attract families, especialy if you go out of school hols. Very handy for whisky trail distilleries. Be warned that the Mancunian warden is not a happy bunny. He doesn't have an assistant so he can't ever get a day off (He speaks loudly, nay shouts, when telling anyone anything so everyone on site heard all about it more than once).

Somehow he and his missus managed 2 days off in the 6 days we were there. He wants a transfer but the C&CC have been slow to oblige, so he said.

Anyway, it is a quiet site and not far from Elgin and the Moray Firth. East side of Scotland is less midgey but take your Avon.

I am Biased because I live in the north west but I see that some have been posting sites in the east and north east both sides of scotland have their merits however, and I hate to say this the best site Ive visited in Scotland for adults only was in the east at

http://www.myrusholidaypark.co.uk/tourers_pitches.asp
We were in the area for a wedding recently each pitch is virtually the equivilant of a super pitch the facilities are on par with a 4 or 5 star hotel (Im not kidding, slate floors vanity units underfloor heating etc) great staff and owners and VERY reasonable, the scenery is good too although different from the west, flatter but you have the "Local Hero" beach nearby, fishing villages like Poortsoy and Cullen where the Cullen Skink soup comes from.

"Local Hero Beach" sorry thats wrong Penman which is nearby was the village with the telephone box, the beach scenes were filmed at Arisaig near Morar on the Fort William to Mallaig road, which is incidentally wher the harry potter train scenes were filmed.
