Advice desperately needed !

Having hired a motor home last summer we took the plunge and bought a 5 yr old (10k mileage) Bailey from a local large dealership at the end of September. We used it a couple if times, then having retired in December, looked forward to our first outing this year that was booked for last week.
About 6 weeks ago we noticed the air bag light wouldn't go off, went to the garage (under warrenty) who couldn't book it in for a couple of weeks, but booked it in 2 weeks before the pre booked trip, assuring us it would be fixed in time. Now, 3 weeks since we took it in and still not back , as the ECU that is needed is on back order. Seeing our plans go up in smoke is it reasonable to expect them to provide a replacement motor home till ours is fixed as it is still in warrenty?

Hello and apologies for the slow reply. We're really sorry to hear that you've had this experience.

We presume you've still not got your ’van back?

Hi again. We've had a word with Practical Motorhome's Gentleman Jack.

It is unfortunate that the ECU is on back order, but it is unlikely that you will be able to claim a replacement vehicle. It is outside the manufacturers' warranties for reasons given below, but you might be able to claim from your holiday travel and breakdown insurers for any expenses such as missed ferries or campsite cancellation charges.

We assume that by 'still under warranty', you mean under the Bailey warranty issued when new. A motorhome is made up of two different parts and so has two different applicable warranties. The first is provided by the converter (Bailey) and covers the residential side. The second is by the base vehicle manufacturer, in this case Peugeot, which is for 2 + 1 years from new (two years by Peugeot, plus a year by Peugeot's insurers.) The ECU is on the base vehicle, and because of this is outside of the warranty period which would only have covered parts and labour anyway, not a replacement vehicle.

As you bought it pre-owned it may have an additional warranty provided by the retailer via a third party such as the RAC. The paperwork will be with the sales receipt or even on the back of it. However, these are usually limited to repair and recovery costs.

We're sorry we can't help more and very sorry that you've had this experience.
