Alarm Problem

So often on this forum companies are panned for not giving good service so Here goes with a short story of the opposite.

Our van is equipped with an alarm system made by Keen Electronics of Aylsbury. It can also be used to remotely control the entry lights on the van.

We went away for a few days this week and when we stopped at a services I set the alarm with the remote as usual while we left it. All worked OK.

We got to the site, set up and locked up ready to go out but the alarm would not set. The next day it was still the same so I had a check and found that neither plip would control the alarm or the lighting.

I rang Keen Electronics yesterday morning (Saturday) not really expecting to get anyone but was put through to a lady who took all the details and asked if it would be OK to call me on Monday or if it was an emergency she would contact us that day if possible, I said Monday would be fine.

Within half an hour Mr Keen rang as he had called in to the office. He took me through a diagnostic routine which ended with the conclusion that something on the site seemed to be interfering with the signal.

The Penny dropped! We're staying at Crystal Palace right under the TV mast!

He told us that this would be the cause of the problem but if when we tried it after leaving the site and the fault was still there he would arrange for us to return the base unit and plips to them for the receiver to be changed.

When I tried it on the way home all was OK and working as normal.

OK it was a daft fault, one that I should have realised but the point is that service from Keen Electronics was first class, and set my mind at rest.

We found later that the site leaflet mentions this problem, we will have to take more notice next time.
