Hi. What are your views please on the Alco ATC Trailer Control System. We are purchasing a new van but two different dealers have said that there is not a lot of advantage in have this fitted.

Just like any other item of safety equipment - whether it's seat belts, air bags, etc. - you only appreciate having them if things go wrong. Being an active system, unlike passive frictional or viscous damper-type stabilisers which only raise the threshold limit of when instability occurs and above which they offer no protection, electronic stabilisers, whether AlKo's ATC, or any of the others on the market, deploy as soon as instability is monitored and actively restore stability. If set up correctly, it is therefore theoretically impossible for an outfit to get out of control of such a system is fitted.
Thank you Lutz for your comments. I think we may well have this fitted as we do a large mileage on the Continent and it would give us peace of mind.
