Stephen-its an ethylene glycol / water mix, and is simply a car antifreeze solution, strength 50/50. Antifreeze is also anti corrosion hence its use in caravan systems which have lots of alloy components

I think I read somewhere that you need special equipment for topping the syistem up. I may be mistaken. Also it has to be bled.Sorry if i am wrong.

Hi

I managed perfectly well without the 'special equipment' though it is preferable. I would say that when I had a problem the advice I was given was that in normal circumstances it should not need topping up between services, so you may have a problem.

If you do, the people at ALDI are extremely helpful.

It should be possible to bleed the system, by either raising or lowering the jockey wheel to encourage air bubbles to migrate to one end of the van, then using the bleed screws on each radiator. Do check you know where the rads are as they can be discovered in obscure places-I found one under the cooker of all locations!

The special equipment is probably just a pump or other means of pressuring the system to force the flow and therefore air out. This could be necessary if there is an inverted U in the pipework, such that air is trapped however much the van is tilted-check the wheel arch areas for this possibility

As stated, if you have to top it up, you have a leak.Shouldn't need topping up between services.Presumably you are not trying to fill it past the minimum mark.this is where it should be without it being turned on, just like your car radiator it expands when hot.
