Hi all,

I have been looking at buying a pressure washer recently and I've found that ALDI are selling one, starting tomorrow. Does anyone own one of these pressure washers? If so would you recommend it as a good purchase, I had been looking at a Karcher pressure washer but they appear to be considerably more expensive than the ALDI one, for a similar performance. I think the make is Powercraft. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

As you've posted this under equipment & accessories I'm wondering if you're thinking of using a pressure washer on your caravan. If so then the general consensus seems to be.... don't....apparently the pressure is too high and can cause damage to seals and caravan paint work.

Hi Robert,

I don't intend to use it on the caravan, I don't want to risk damaging the seals, as you rightly say. It is mainly for cleaning the car, I may have posted this under the wrong heading.

Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve

Personally I don't use a pressure washer on the car either.

There's a suggestion, I read somewhere, that says do not use it on the tyres as it causes damage to certain oily compounds in the tyre causing premature failure.

Cheers

Thanks Dustydog,

I had read this too, in one of the which reports on car tyres. My reason for buying the pressure washer was to save money in the long run on car trips to my local car wash and get the road dirt off the car body as I travel a lot of miles for work. I like to clean the car regularly, especially before and after a caravan holiday.

Thanks for you advice,

Steve

Cant beat the old bucket and sponge filled with wash/wax (Poundland stuff is good) and warm water, rinse off and leather down, takes longer I know but much better than a pressure washer.

I have a Karcher pressure washer with an adjustable nozzle from a fierce jet of water to a mist spray. Agree I would never use the jet on either the car or caravan but by adjusting the nozzle I can use the pressure washer for rinsing off the soap and dirt without damage.

I work as a valeter (vehicle washer!) and delivery driver for a car/van rental company. We use a Karscher steam washer which delivers a high pressure jet of hot water/shampoo. This certainly gets the surface dirt off. However, even after this deluge, we usually need to brush/sponge the vehicle to remove the residual grime. We then rinse with clean water from another pressure washer with wide spray. The lesson is that a normal domestic cold water pressure washer will not on its own get a vehicle clean - some agitation is needed too. By the way, I am quitting the job in a couple of weeks to spend the summer roaming UK and France with our Indiana- anybody want my job?

I have the Aldi pressure washer and its the best so far out of 6 over a 25 year period

I always use it to wash the car and caravan

Its got a detergent dispenser that covers the vehicle in wash wax ,fenwicks or TFI depending on what you put in it

I then wash the van/car with wash wax or Fenwicks in a bucket with a brush before rinsing on high pressure

It doesn't have a pencil jet which will easily cut through caravan decals but the fan spray is great f0r rinsing off

I always use water butt water rather than metered mains as it dries with no deposits and is free

In all the time stated above I have only had damp in one caravan and that was in the rear corner at 6 years old
