Gary, Meths is much better than white spirit as this is oil based and leaves a residue. Best of all pop into Halfords and get some brake pad cleaner this will do the job fine.

Its not recomended to clean them as there will always be a risk that there is some residue from the grease left behind. For the cost to replace them, around

I have found the best thing to clean the pads & the towball is Car Brake Cleaner, comes in a spray can,you can spray it on & wipe it off.If you clean the towball every time you hitch up the pads in the stabiliser stay clean for a long time. The cleaner can be purchased in Halfords or similar outlets.

Gary, as with most of the replies I could not recomend enough the use of brake pad fluid cleaner in spray form. I have used this since buying the van from new and this was recomended by the dealer. As my van is kept in storage and is moved by the owner this is essential and is put on the tow ball and into the housing every time before I hitch up. I use a piece of clean rag to wipe off any excess grease etc.

Thankyou, I'll give the brake cleaner a go as I have some, if all else fails I'll replace them. Thanks again. Gary
