Alko Leg

Been away this weekend and one of the back legs on the caravan has broken. It has broken at the top. The pice that moves up and down the threaded bolt, well that is still moving up and down the thread. It is the nut that has broken from the leg itself. I would like to get it off the have a look at it and find out what it needs doing to repair it or is it going to be eisier to leve the leg on and repair it on the caravan?

Thanks

The travel nut can be replaced. There are two sizes though, so you need the right one.

The leg will have to come off to do it, which depending on how old the van is, may present some problems.

The legs are secured to the van by dome headed coach bolts which rely on a small square section locking into the floor wood inside the van.

They may, when trying to undo the nuts, start turning and destroy the grip they had.

If you decide to try it, make sure you give the nuts and bolt thread a liberal soaking with WD40 a couple of hours before working on the nuts, and clean off any rust you may find before starting.

If there is enough thread lock 2 nuts on the end of the thread to grip while loosening the nut on the well lubricated as stated above thread

If the coach bolt does start to slip try to hold the threaded part with mole grips preferably above the nut if its already moved a little!!
