Alko stabiliser

In a couple of weeks time we're getting a newer caravan which has an Alko stabiliser and we just want to know what's the best way of removing every trace of grease from the towball...as I have heard when you use an Alko the towball needs to be completely clean and dry

Jo, Ideally use a mild wet & dry paper & brake cleaner, my experience with an Alco stabiliser is, because of the "clearance" needed, buy a Alco towball.Read alco website for details, but from what i can remember the Alco fitting is quite large and requires a lot of clearance

if you have a swan neck ow ball you will not need to change it, if it is a bolt on ball you will need an exteded neck ball (Alko) available from any caravan shop remember to remove all traces of paint from the ball with fine emery cloth if you need to remove grease or oil this is best done with brake cleaner

We currently have a 50mm double bolt ball with a backplate if that's of any assistance - will we need to have the Alko taken off?

The Al-ko also uses a 50 mm dia ball with the same two bolt fitting but the dimensions of the vertical and horizontal offsets are larger to accommodate the bulk and articulation of the stabiliser.

These "special" towballs are available from all good caravan accessory outlets.

This Al-Ko link gives you the info you need to known.
