Good Morning, I have a 1992 swift challenger 450/5 with an "older" style tow hitch, can anyone tell me how easy it would be to swap this out for an Alko system - is it a straight forward swap and are there different types of Alko system for different caravans,

many thanks

Hi Sean,

From my experience I got a 1991 Elddis and converted my hitch to Alko and no problems at all local caravan fitter did it for 20 quid and got the original hitch bits in case I want to swop back when I seell it.By the way find it excellent bought mine for 190 and that included tow bar and security lock and hitch, shop around...good luck

Its well worth doing and so convenient to use

In this months PC mag there wasa letter from someone who had fitted a blade type stabiliser as well as the Alko

This was posted as a wonderful achievement yet when I contacted Alko on the same topic they said that it was NOT ADVISABLE and would "put too much strain on the towball"

Hi Sean

We have a 91 challenger. Were in the process of changing. One dealer said he would have to cut the A frame so he could fit the alko hitch (were wanting the hitch that has lock and stabilizer). We weren't impressed at having the van cut. Didn't think that was right, others have said they can fit it with a conversion kits. We were asked which hitch we already have as they can not be fitted to a hitch which rotates 360 only the hitch that moves from side to side.

It's all getting to technical and stressful for me. Let me know how your getting on.
