Alko Towball Paint Removal

hi, going to pick up the caravan tomorrow from local dealer who has fitted my new alko 3004 stabiliser. i left the box with all the fittings for them, but kept the towball as they are going to change it for me when i arrive tomorrow. so, question is, after reading all the info available re these towballs having to be stripped of the factory paint, is it ok to do this with normal sandpaper, i tried a small test area and could see the light scratches, would these have an effect on the friction pads ?. or would i be better off using nitromoors or some other paint stripper to do the job.

cheers.

cheers raymond, only thing is at this time of night i havent got wet and dry, or emery paper, only have some sandpaper. was wondering if it would be ok to use that, or wait until the morning and get some paint stripper.

cheers.

im sure other people who are more experts than me dont like puttting certain things on the towball as it damages the pads on the hitch i could be wrong

dean, am no asking how to maintain it buddy, am asking about taking the paint off. i got mine in a box along with the stabiliser and the towball was coated in the same black paint as the rest of it. wee bit peculiar that, as alko state that the towball must be free of paint, so why have them painted in the first place ?, then leave it up to the customer to carry this out, seems a strange yin to me.

keep it coverd by rubber hitch cover clean ball and friction pads with a brake cleaner then wipe ball with a rought papper or scotch bright before you hitch up i keep a bit of 3ms in boot of car you can check wear on staberliser with the marks on alko head.

Highlander . Only use wet and dry to remove the paint from your tow ball sandpaper I would say is far too course .

Wet the wet and dry first of course and this will do the the job without scoring your tow ball.

Regards Sir Roger
