Hello

we were driving back yesterday on the M6 south, just past Crawley Services. I was driving at 60 mph in the first lane and was catching a lorry. Being a Sunday around 2pm, not heavy traffic. Checked mirror, black Vectra car a way behind, plus nothing in lane 3, so mirror, signal then overtake.

As I was almost past the lorry, black Vectra swerved right in front of me, I had to brake hard to miss him, then the nice gentleman slammed on his brakes, burning rubber, then sped off. Good job my brakes are good enough to stop my Toyota Surf and Bailey Pageant Burgundy.

Even if I had slowed him down (which I didn't) there is no reason to try to force me off the road.

My wife telephoned the police with his registration number and gave us an incident number to take along to our local police station.

Thought about it this morning and decided that, if he did this to someone else, they may not be so lucky and could either run into him or hit the lorry, so went to police station.

Yes, they said they were not interested as it would simply be my word against his. I could wait and speak to a police officer, but there was already 55 crimes ahead of me for the first policeman to deal with.

I've got his registration and might publish this simply to warn others to watch out! Or run into him.....

If you ran a business and one of your employees refused to carry out a duty you have employed him for, what would you do ??.

Sack them

Get the General manager to talk to them

etc etc

The Police are you employee, The General Manager is the Chief Constable. And his boss is the Home Secretary. Write to the General Manager and his Boss.

At least you flag up a problem.

Going back a few years, the Germans had a great idea. They would post a list of photo's of the number plates of those motorist's who had commited offences in their local paper.

Each motorist was when prosecuted told that this would happen and for a further fee they could stop the publication. Thats "name and shame" big time, as the Germans are a very self proud nation.

Why not start that here.

I got a itcket for being 9 mins late on a parking bay. Not shamed just bloody annoyed that I forgot the time.

But seriously there are far too many plonkers on the roads from all areas of transprotation, and what the police do is a joke.

Steve.

Agreed - Very few police cars actually on the road - but lots of cameras.

And of course there are enough policemen to waste time telling an old couple who had a sign saying that their dogs eat Jehovah's Witnesses that they are now criminals guilty of the that most serious of crimes - having a sense of humour.

I suggest that we all ought to have stickers made saying exactly what this couples sign said and we all stick it in our windows in protest at the stupidity.

Ken, unfortunately you were given the right advice at the police station. Unless there is an independent witness to an incident such as the one you encountered, then the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) would not proceed with a prosecution.

This doesn't detract from the seriousness of the incident however.

You will find that a number of police forces have disbanded their traffic departments so that officers can be deployed to other departments. The forces that do still have traffic departments have seen their roles changes of late to a more pro-active crime role e.g. catching chummy transporting his drugs haul. This is one of the reasons why the VOSA traffic support officers have been introduced.

I'd be inclined to send the full report of this to several Daily newspapers.

After all. This maniac could have killed you both.
