Altering L Shape lounge

Just bought a nearly new van with an L shape lounge. While the layout suits us very well there is a small narrow "seat" on the return of the L shape and this seems a bit of a waste of space. Its deep enough for you to put one leg upon it but not really deep enough to sit on. I was wondering if anyone had extended the cushion making it deeper and if so how did you support it, many thanks.

Glad I spotted this topic.

I'm looking at doing exactly the same in my Louisiana, sounds like the same Van.

I find the table is too small for the layout. This would help fit 4/5 people around the table.

I currently have an order in with Bailey for some matching seat material (3.5 months now).

I plan to exactly copy the foam profile of the existing seat and my wife will do the Girlie Bits on the sewing machine making the cover as close as poss to match the full width cushions.

The protuding corner will need to be cut off to keep it clear of the Heater.

I'm thinking about using thick ply to extend the base supporting it with the exiting front seat base and possibly a folding leg on the outside corner if neccessary.

The plan is to fix a support bar to the back of the existing side base to enable the ply to slot in so that I make virtually no permanent changes to the Van.

I'd be very interested to follow progress of yours if you get there 1st and pinch ideas from anyone who has done this previously.

Hello again Hazel

I'm not making much progress with my seat as I still can't get my material.

Ordered 2m of Matisse from my Bailey dealer in early Aug, 5 emails and 6 phone calls later still no sign.

Excuses were - no reply from Bailey, out of stock, stock in and mine delevered in a week, now I'm told the dealer has to go direct to the supplier, I think I'm being mucked around.

Bailey won't discuss unless I have the order number, but the dealer always finds a way around providing.

What Caravan are you dealing with and have you acquired the fabric ok?

Hello again Hazel

Material arrived at last, infact I've bought some blue foam ( seems like the correct grade) and some wadding, made the foam profile and drawn up some patterns ready for cutting the cloth.

I've cut some ply for the extended base and I have some ideas to avoid permanent changes to the Caravan and try to avoid using a leg.

I'm taking photo's as I go so if your interested I'll get them to you when I've proven the ideas work.

Have you made any progress or had ideas?

Good to hear from you Hazel

Sorry to hear about your car prang. As long as no one was injured, I suppose it's another of life's 'experiences'. I'm glad things are getting sorted.

The festive period has put my progress on ice for a few weeks, but I'll get some pics to you in a couple of weeks once we have completed the cushion and tested it all in situ in the Van. It's looking promising at the moment.

No point in sending some lovely pics of a design which doesn't work - tee hee.

Hi David in Daventry

Crikey, I'd like to be a Caravan dealer in Daventry; half the population must own a Van. - Lol

Mine is an early 2007 series 5 Louisiana with Matisse upholstery. The width of the material was 2.4m, I ordered 2 running meters. This was priced at

My seat alteration completed and I've emailed you the pics.

Simple solution but it works and looks pretty good, well at least I think so.

I had to learn how to use the Sewing machine though, the Girls wouldn't play ball, at least not in my time scales. Trouble is the wife will expect me to take up my own jeans now.

Next thing is I'll be expected to understand the washing machine and that magic basket thingy where you chuck dirty stuff in and it comes out clean and ironed.

Hi I wonder if you would send the piccie of the alteration to me, I would like to use the small side seat as a leg rest. do I put my e-mail on here, or do I just give permission for you to get it from the moderator.if the latter is the case I give my permission.

Shiba.

Hi Shiba

I'm not sure what the protocal is for passing on Email addresses, I've looked at the FAQ's but no help there.

If you'd like to send me a mail at thorprc@talk21.com, I'll reply with a copy of the pics I sent to Hazel.

I'd be interested to know what caravan you own, Mines a Bailey Senator Louisiana series 5.

I used the orriginal small side seat as a back for the new one, but it is too tall as you'l see on the pics so I may use the remaining material to make a reduced size seat back.

It would be a shame to waste my newly aquired sewing skills - lol
