Alternative Route from Austria into Italy

We are thinking of going back to Italy next year, after a six year gap. Was thinking of trying the route from Landeck via Pfunds, Schlanders, Merano and Bolzano with our caravan. Anyone any experience of this route. Used the Fern Pass before and I wondered if this road is similar. Caravan Club European Guide suggests its OK but says no stopping places.

Have you thought of going over the new Brenner Pass from Innsbruck to Garda. We did it 2 years ago and it was wonderful.

Stopped at Kranbitten just outside Innsbruck for the night and then to the pass in the morning and easy drive to Lake Garda.

I have used the Brenner the last time we went to Italy. Some while ago someone on another forum was talking about the other route I mentioned and I thought it sounded interesting! We are planning to go to Lake Maggiore so we will, for the first time, travel via Switzerland perhaps spending a few days in Interlarken.
