Just back to caravanning after nearly 20 years. Bought the caravan, got the gear sorted, sat down tonight to book Easter in the New Forest (electric the only minimum requirement), or somewhere on the south coast. So far, nothing available. Tried May Day - nowt! Tried Spring Bank - nada! Tried August Bank - zilch! So here I am with my pride and joy in the garden and nowhere to go!! Folks, looks like you've got it all wrapped up before I even got started. Anyone want to buy a little used caravan?

Having had to visit family in that area for years at those times and spent hours in New Forest traffic with the kids I think you've had a narrow escape ;-)

Find somewhere quieter :)

Hi there, one question with modern vans why is an electic hook up so important.

If you are only looking to book for the Easter weekend and are a member of either The caravan club or Caravan and camping club look up detail of Centre or D A Rallies in that area, you should be able to get booked in and as well as good company normally in nice locations you will save yourself one hell of a lot of money.

Don't worry about electric Colin.

Book a site near to Hereford. Go to Rockfield DIY, they have a super generator 3Kw output at 240V for

Thanks all for your helpful suggestions. We just have a soft spot for the New Forest (like everyone else, his dog, and his caravan, I suppose), and we wanted to revisit our favourite place (Setthorns) to get us back in the mood!! We will be looking at all other options later, especially when I pack up work in a couple of years or so.

Not really considering flogging the van - a remark born out of frustration and dismay, and my naivety for not getting in my booking early!!

When I was last caravanning, you could not even book in advance at Setthorns, except at Spring Bank. Good, old and days are the words that come to mind - but it's probably just me having been away too long and not realising how things have changed!

Mildenhall. Wildemere Farm. A corner of a medow set in a wood.

BUT there are airfields nearby which as they also have Easter should be quiet. Have at 5vans.com there are some pics

to see.

I also have a soft spot for the New forest and if I cannot get you to travel east I used a CL near Cadenham of the A337 near Minstead. called The Mill House. Its a New CL so you will only find it on the CC web site. This is a First rate CL and well worth a try.

Thanks for that, I'll certainly look it up. Like its position - misses all those traffic jams!! Regards, Colin.

Are you in the caravan club? If so try Cls - you should strike lucky there.
Thanks Julie, yes we're in the CC and will be exploring all the sites. Trouble is I bought my caravan at the end of last season and was itching to get going - just kicking ourselves that we sat back for so long when we shd have been booking...

(PS - we have now got a site - at Milford on Sea and I am sure it will give us a great start to a pastime we know we're going to love!)
