As Ron D says, whole-house electricity monitors like the
OWL (and presumably the ONZO gadget you have) need to be clipped around the live incoming mains cable that goes into your home fusebox. The OWL (I don't know about the ONZO) has a separate clip-on sensor for this, so that the monitor can be positioned in a more convenient spot. Whether or not you can use the sensor with the mains feed at a site depends on the wiring, I guess, but I suspect it probably won't be possible.

Alternatively, you can buy a plug-in 13A meter that monitors a single socket — I think that's what John G is describing. This will only measure the power consumption of the device plugged into that socket though, unless, as John G suggests, a competent electrician can connect it between the mains inlet and the van feed. Maplin
sells them for £8.
