Hi Lisa

2005 was when we first started caravanning, so maybe I joined the forum for a while then. Not sure, can't remember.

I understand what you say about pitching next to dogs. It's a potential hassle you don't need on holiday. We try to avoid 'vans with other dogs, because it can set ours off seeing them walking past etc, but sometimes you are where you are and that's that. They have been taught to speak on command, which should mean, in theory (OK, I know, never work with kids and animals!), that they will also shut up on command. Amazingly, that often works. Staying at a CL is a good option for us, but if we're on a big site, then we generally back ourselves up to a hedge away from the main thoroughfare. The dogs know the routine now, and are mostly quite obliging.

Brood bitches usually have to go back into kennels a week before they're due to give birth, and stay there until the pups are weaned, so the situation you mentioned wouldn't arise. Our girl stresses in kennels tho, so for the rest of her pregnancy she goes where we go and we keep a close eye on her. They only have about 3 litters, so hopefully the next one will be her last.

Staffs are very popular right now, aren't they? Friends in rescue organisations tell me they're inundated. We were trying to catch one the other day that had been hit by a car, but it got away :-((

All the best.

Just a quick reply to Dustydog and thanks for all your thoughts.

Haven't yet discovered where people share their travels on this forum (too busy with this thread up till now!), but hope to do so soon.

Funny you should mention triple bunks. We hope to get a Bailey Olympus 525, which has a couple of bench seats at the rear with a cunning little pull-out bunk crosswise above them. Sadly for the dogs, husband has already bagged the bunk for the times when we're not speaking to one another

Poo bags? Don't get me started! If ever they find a use for dog poo, we're in the money!!!

Take care.

Hi Loadsadogs. Welcome to the forum. Can I just say "Well Done" to the way you have posted in all this. You haven't got narky or defensive and have answered everyone with friendly good humour. I, for one, would be quite happy to be pitched next to you and however many GSDs you have about you as you seem a thoroughly nice person.
Greetings

Hi loadsadogs and welcome to the forum. I haven't posted a welcome to someone on here for a very long while, not because I was ignoring people or anything but I had just got out the habit. I have long planned to get back into the habit again but could never seem to find the right opportunity.... I think this is it. The way you have dealt with some of the posts on here which were, in my opinion, downright rude at the least, has been admirable. I also congratulate you on the work you are doing with the GSDs. Keep on doing what you are doing.
Enjoy your dogs and your caravan. If I see an outfit on site with a load of GSD pups I will know who it is. They are one of our favourite breeds of dogs, sadly our last one passed away about 7 years ago. If we do meet up, same as someone else posted, keep a count of the pups or my better half will have one smuggled in her handbag.
Good luck.
Robert
