Hi Lisa
2005 was when we first started caravanning, so maybe I joined the forum for a while then. Not sure, can't remember.
I understand what you say about pitching next to dogs. It's a potential hassle you don't need on holiday. We try to avoid 'vans with other dogs, because it can set ours off seeing them walking past etc, but sometimes you are where you are and that's that. They have been taught to speak on command, which should mean, in theory (OK, I know, never work with kids and animals!), that they will also shut up on command. Amazingly, that often works. Staying at a CL is a good option for us, but if we're on a big site, then we generally back ourselves up to a hedge away from the main thoroughfare. The dogs know the routine now, and are mostly quite obliging.
Brood bitches usually have to go back into kennels a week before they're due to give birth, and stay there until the pups are weaned, so the situation you mentioned wouldn't arise. Our girl stresses in kennels tho, so for the rest of her pregnancy she goes where we go and we keep a close eye on her. They only have about 3 litters, so hopefully the next one will be her last.
Staffs are very popular right now, aren't they? Friends in rescue organisations tell me they're inundated. We were trying to catch one the other day that had been hit by a car, but it got away :-((
All the best.
