Annual service

Our Topaz is 22 years old and we have it serviced every two years. Next week it goes in again so looked up last service which is 7 pages of ticks and comments which frankly I did not examine as he said every thing is fine . Point is I was well satisfied that just about every thing was covered in those 7 pages. He is an approved workshop, the price was £270 and do not know at moment what this years will be.

Having it serviced by a professional is good if you cannot do it yourself. £270 looks a bit high for round here but it depends on where you are. We paid £240 last year for a fixed workshop in Glasgow.
I would admit if they say everything is fine I go along with that.

Hello Robert,
Generally such services only check the function of appliances, and they don't usually do any direct service work on them - unless there is a functional failure.

As caravans age it becomes increasingly important to make sure the gas appliances are thoroughly checked for no corrosion of gas pipes. Due to legal requirements some gas appliances had to use steel based gas connection and burner pipes, rather than copper due to the temperatures of the surrounding structures they had to pass trough and whilst they were made with a corrosion resistant materials if the coating got damaged some will corrode and eventually begin to leak gas.

Do check with your technician if these pipes have been checked.
