Hi, I am thinking of installing a Sat Dish on the roof of my Wyoming. (Wifh Bailey's approval, re warranty)Can I run the lead from the dish to the sky box and then to the Status booster and plug my TV into the arial socket as normal and receive signals from the dish? Any advice would be appreciated. I can not have a Sky box and DVD player on the same shelf with the tv, one or the other.

Thank you. David (from Kent)

I have the Maxview Semitronic on the Oklahoma van roof but didn't ask Bailey first!I use it with a Sky+ box whic of course records as well !

You run the coax from the dish to the digi box satellite inlet

I use the RF outputs on the Sky box to connect to 2 TVs You can use a scart lead if you want to but I find the scart lead too stiff/bulky and prefer to use the coax

You run the aerial lead from the van roof aerial booster to the Sky box input marked aerial

You can the watch terrestrial TV through the aerial(it goes through the Sky box) or Sky via the tuned station using the RF coax outlet or via the scart lead on AV

Hope that helps

Hope that helps

Just re read your posting

You can use the existing van TV socket to connect to the digi box aerial inlet socket and then go from the digi box RF out to the TV

David, if you are asking if you can disconnect the coax cable coming from you status aerial at the booster then connect the coax output from your sky box in its place, then the answer is yes. the output from your aerial wall socket would then be from your sky box

You could do as Colin says but then the output would be from the Sky box satellite only unless you connect a new lead from the booster to the Sky box aerial in socket

Another way would be to connect the Sky box to the TV via the scart lead/sockets and just connect the aerial as normal to the Tv socket from the van Tv aerial socket

David that is a very good price

http://www.maxview.co.uk/acatalog/OMNISAT_SEMITRONIC.html
You can download instructions from the above site(note the price)

I did fit it myself and following the excellent Maxview instructions and using the template provided it was easy to do

I fitted an Invacom twin LNB and ran an extra cable down the mast so that I could use Sky+

2 years of use or 200+ days in the van and no problems

I reinforced the wardrobe side with contiboard and that takes the strain

Hi John, Thank you for all that information, it was really helpfull. The last piece of information I need to find out now is if the dish will work in Spain in Las Dunas. Also I have a Sky box, a Pace ,before I went cable, and I am hoping this will work. I will have to go into the loft and get the number of it and make some enquiries. Anything to save some money and convince "her in doors" that it is a good idea !!!!

Once again John, thank you very much. David(from Kent)

Hi again Dave

Glad to be of help

We stayed at Aquarius near to Las Dunas twice and bought an 80 cm dish in Spain

It needed a 0.3 LNB to get ITV but Dave(another one) had a standard Sky mini dish and that was OK

(Now for a silly story:

someone put a tin over Dave's LNB when he was out one evening and told him that radio hams had blocked the satellite signal

He duly checked his Tv but not the dish.

It was a tin from ham that much was true

That is why my caravan sported little black stuck on lumps under the Spanish bull sticker---Dave's revenge )

You could easily uprate the Maxview LNB if its not OK

There is a satellite shop in Ampuria Brava nearby and they have all the gear for a fraction(2/3) UK price.

Hello John, thanks again for replying. You will find that a piece of cardboard, painted black, using cellotape is even more confusing!!!!! Not that I have ever done it!!! As for the rest, I will make a technical enquiry to SatCure so that I get it right first time, for Spain. If I buy it and then it doesn't work in Spain, I'm DEAD!!! I know the dish is 80cm wide, so maybe that helps, and with your advice about a .3LNB, I hope I am GO.

Take care John. David(from Kent)

David if you do go to Ampuria Brava spend an afternoon at the very near airport watching the sky divers

Its a non stop show with light aircraft taking off from by the cafe terrace and the sky divers with their brightly coloured parachutes landing very frequently

Have a good time

Hello John, just thought I would let you know that I have had a reply from the design engineer at Bailey, concerning the fitting of a dish. When they fit a Status directional arial a piece of ply is glued into the ceiling at manufacture, to support the pole. He said that if I fit a dish, to drill the hole within 112mm of the side of the van, where there is a piece of wood. Whowever, if I fit the dish, they wouldn't honour the warrenty for leaks or structural defects!!!! So it looks like a portable dish for me!!!

Best Wishes, David(from Kent)

David that doesn't surprise me

Its down to how much confidence you have in yourself or an installer to apply a ring of sealant of the correct type

I have fitted locker doors,a rear window and several external sockets but I always make sure that I use a good sealant and have never had any leaks yet

I would not expect any manufacturer to give a warranty on any work that I did and accept that if it goes wrong then I carry the can

H JC

That is why I chose the Semitronic

The stress is taken by the mast which is bolted to the side of a reinforced wardrobe unlike most roof mounted dishes that rely on a square of aluminium glued/screwed to the thin alloy of the van roof

At the end of the day its down to using the van rather or being afraid to infringe the warranty

If its the former then you have to be prepared to carry the can yourself if it goes wrong with whatever extra you fit
