Hi. Before we start, I know they are UGLY!!
but i'm drawn to the massive space, Mercedes power train & low price.
Has anyone got one? How does it tow? What MPG do you get?
I'm torn between the manual & the TiP auto, any thoughts on how a TiP copes with towing??

Cheers, Gareth :)

Had a 55 Rexton 270 auto which did absolutely fine towing our twin axle Coachman which is no lightweight along with three children and two dogs!!! Taking delivery of a new 7 seat one on Friday before the 2 litre comes out later in the year which is what the Rodius now has. Yes the Rodius is just about the most ugly thing on the road but make sure before you buy that the 2,2,3 seating configuration suits, if you only want to seat 4 and have a massive boot space then fine but if you want to seat 5 there are many more practical options out there. Seats 6 and 7 in the Rexton are only suitable for the extra children for parties and not designed for long journeys. If your van isn't too heavy but you want a large boot and seat five, the new pick up looks a good bet as well.

The new pick up got a good write up in last months 4x4 Magazine, or it could have been Total 4x4 as I was reading it ata friend's house. I will try and be more specific and get back.

Max towing limit 2000kg on that and all the other Ssangyong except the last few 270 Rextons.

where's the Land Rover these days? Took my elderly Pajero to have an off road mod fitted to a local long standing Landie specialist where I noticed an N reg Trooper next to mine. The owner of the garage had bought it off Nick Mason (pink Floyd) some 5 years ago as in his elderly years he found he couldn't drive all the way to Cornwall in a Defender without discomfort.

the Korando Sports Sx pick up with a 2300 kg towing weight is in 4x4 magazine January 2013 and Total 4x4 covers them as well in the January 2013 too. In the December issue the Rexton is reviewed as one of the best secondhand SUV at 6 yrs old. So nothing directly on Rodius but the marque seem to be well regarded for their capability and Reliabilty at a good price.

Thanks guys.
Id seen the new Rodius has a 2 litre , I take it it's more powerful than the 2.7 but it seems like a step back to my old fashioned way of thinking!
Yes 2,2,3 seating suits me , I had a Grand Voyager before ;) we have 2 kids but often take my in laws out with us & we have a biggish dog.
I'm currently running a Toyota Estima 2.2 4x4 manual but it's under geared & lacks grunt for towing really.
The Chrysler was powerful but the autobox was rubbish & the brakes ...!!!!!

Hi Clive,

Unfortunately I've been taken ill and can now only drive an Automatic so our dream car for life is going on Friday. We decided on anoher Rexton as it was a way of still having a new car without any cash outlay!! Could of had the defender converted but at a cost so as the new van had just arrived as well this wasn't an option. All very sad especially the girls to say good bye to our dreams but trying to remember she's only a car!!

If it helps with price ideas, depending on your needs/wants. One of our local dealers has a pre registered (62) 270 S with delivery mileage only in a darkish looking grey for a smidge under £15 k. Obviously that's 2wd and manual but still quite a good price.

Martin,
Im sorry to hear your news, I did so much enjoy reading the story of your ordering the Landie and the paint saga etc,and your enjoyment when she finally arrived. Good luck with the Rexton and hope you can keep on caravanning with the family.

Thanks Martin , but I'm in the sub 5K division!!
Im thinking of a manual as they're cheaper road tax.
Im not bothered about a 4WD TBH , it's nice for the couple of times s year that we visit a wet sloping site!!

I'm ok with high miles, I don't put big miles on My motors ,
£3.5K just about gets one but 5 for something tidyish with the top SX spec.
