I was just thinking the same thing earlier today Kev.
I'm not sure if he'd said that he was off in the caravan over the holiday period but the last time I remember seeing his postings were in early November.
I hope that he's ok.

Hi all and thanks to those concerned but I'm fine although I was a little stressed a few weeks ago.
I did have problems with my internet (BT). Quite a few months the speed had been dropping off so I just unplugged the hub cable and reset it. After that it went fine until eventually it was so slow I couldn't even get a speed test. After a lot of hassle of umpteen calls ringing India the tech people decided I needed a new hub. I then rang up BT in this country and they told me the hub would be there the following day. It was excellent service because the parcel came the next day. Excellent service off the Royal Mail though, not BT. The parcel only contained 2 cables and 2 filters

On the phone again and it finally came 2 days later. I was a bit wary about setting the new up considering how everything was going wrong. My wariness proved to be correct. With the old hub I could at least connect despite it being slower than dial up but this new one wouldn't connect at all.
On the phone again to India

More checks

Nope, no good so they booked an engineer to come. First booking nobody turned up. Back on the phone to India. Told they never came because the booking wasn't confirmed so re-booked another slot. Waited and waited. Noturnuppy. On the phone to India again. By now I was getting on first name terms with them especially Victor. A very nice man. A very, very nice man

The lady who answered this time rang up to get another slot and she asked me if the one they'd offered was ok. I said yes and off she goes for a few more minutes whilst I listen to more piped music. When she came back she said I couldn't have that one because it had now gone ... waaaaaaaa!!
smiley-yell.gif

I finally got one and the engineer came and after lots of tests he found out it was my firewall. Turn off the firewall and I was getting the fastest speeds I'd ever had. The point is though this firewall is provided by BT as a package of MacAfee protection.
I now use the Windows firewall although there's a built in firewall in the hub. Although it's been fine now for a few weeks I've noticed the speed dropping off again the last few nights just like it did before

While all this was going on I decided to put my computer back to factory settings. This is when I came to put in my passwords, which I keep in a book, back into the sites I use. Somehow for some reason I hadn't got the PC forum password
smiley-surprised.gif

I tried various ones but no good. While all the above was going on I decided to transfer my VHS tapes to my computer and edit them. This has kept me occupied for umpteen hours and in between times I've been having ermmmm debates on another forum which I had my password for.
As I told Emmo by email what a dork I was. I lay in bed the other night, as one does, and then remembered all my passwords are stored on an external hard drive. So here I am

Parksy was right in saying he remembered we were going away for Christmas/New Year but sadly we didn't go. We were off to Carnon Downs but about 6 weeks before we went our oldest dog became ill with colitis which is caused from her pancreatitis. A week before we were supposed to leave she started to improve so with the vets advice decided not to risk upsetting her digestive system again. Since then I'm happy to say she's been fine although I must have a serious word with the vet. She is on a powder, Samylin, which is to stabilise her liver which suffers from the pancreatitis. This powder is £47 and lasts 2 weeks
smiley-surprised.gif
£96 per month. I've looked online and can get it for £27. Due to this being an ongoing condition the insurance wont pay and our bill from her last illness cost over £400 and we've paid another £65 this week for another liver blood test

I'm afraid the lead on Screwham Hall will have to wait

It's good to see you back in our bosom Lord B

There's nothing worse than computer trouble, it can be very frustrating. There can be all sorts of reasons for computer speed decreasing, even schoolkids on holiday and overloading the internet system can cause it but more often than not it's conflicting software or perhaps remnants of old software (Norton always leaves traces on your computer that will conflict with other anti-virus software)
If you forget your PCv password simply use the link on my forum signature below to contact me and I can sort it out.
I hope that your dog continues to recover and what's the betting that the vet will tell you that the £27 powder is less effective?

The wife buys quite a lot of the dogs medication online, even though they are insured our vet will just make a charge for the prognosis & prescription.

Nice to see you about Dame TC, now where's King DD?
I think I've had a touch of the LBs. The old computer blew up last week and didn't want to be fixed.. Seems its hard drive partitions went amok and decided there was no no more space on the disc nor any RAM memory left. So it shut down and wouldn't restart. When my boffin got it going again I'd lost all e-mails, folders documents and pictures
smiley-yell.gif

He had another go and got them back. I've now bought one of those usb back up things so we save all our data without worrying about a total computer crash. It also seems SWMBO had over 6000 open e-mails in her inbox which wasn't helping
smiley-surprised.gif

Now whilst I am alomost fully working my signature on PCv forum wont fully load in purple.Barely three lines instead of my usual 4. Is that correct I wonder
smiley-undecided.gif
.
SWMBO is investigating buying a new PC now. We have an I.Pad and Portable but do need a decent one for the study. Curently using an E Machine which 6 years on has been good. More later

Nice to read that you back LB BT trouble eh,well round here its not worth having max 2mb from the local exchange, I have been with Virgin for years get around 9.7mg using wireless.
My original wireless hub suddenly stopped working , rang them up in England got a fitter to replace device Guy worked with me to set new codes within the hub and he presto back to around 9.7mbwith new wireless hub, after resetting the security checked the broadband speed max 2mb, rang England again, the Guy worked with me loggin into various screens that changed the settings of the new hub and hey presto back to around 9.7 .
Should get 10mb if connected in directly into the hub, and now Richard the great white chief of Virgin, is going double my mb to 20 no extra charge.
Sorry to hear about your dog, our Kerry (nearly 14) has had eating problems, Chucked out the Hills senior plus 7 now on Chappie
fish and rice she loves it, putting weight back on . Vet bills we had a spell where she caught a flea, scratching herself, bought the
dab on stuff and washed in special flea killer shampoo, brushed her every day sprayed her bedding and where she slept during the day still scratched went to the vets and whilst the vet was combing her with his flea brush, the flea jumped onto his bare arm, since then no more scratching.

Thank you Royston.
According to a website BT is the best for where I live plus the fact it's installing that Infinity this year which says we should get up to 40mbps speed.
Many years ago our dogs picked up fleas from the place they were clipped at. I became paranoid over the horrible things.
Glad to hear that your flea got his comeuppance
