I have been told by my dealer that I have around 250kgs to play with in my van for all my stuff. I have been told my Awning is around 35kgs. I have as much light weight stuff as I can, i.e melamime dinner set. Gas kettle, BP light gas bottles ect.

Just wondered if anyone else had done this and have the rough weights of clothes and anything else I may need for me, my wife and 2 small children.

If you want to be legal and insured and not compromise warranty on a new caravan you have to weigh your bits and pieces.

How else would you know what weight you have in there?

We have dedicated caravanning gear and clothes. Many caravanners have some really useful gadgets and bits and bobs, but they all add to weight.

Roughly 35kg is not a lot of good if your needs have you near your weight limit, you need to know what it weighs if it has to go in the caravan, and don't forget extra metal pegs plus a mallet in the locker or a battery drill and tools for steadies and screwpegs all push that weight limit.

Yes, it all adds up very quickly. Several years ago we went to Norway with the caravan. Knowing how expensive the cost of living is up there, my wife decided to take as much non-perishable food with us as possible to cover our needs for a family of 4 on a 4 week trip. When she put everything together, I weighed 150kg of tinned and packaged food! Needless to say, that went into the car, not the caravan.

Last time I was on my driveway weighing my bits and pieces I was arrested for indecent exposure and a lewd act with a set of kitchen scales pml )
