I know absolutely nothing about computers, so I'm wondering if anybody can tell me why the arrow on the screen indicating the position of the mouse, keeps shooting off the side, always left to right? It doesn't happen all the while, just now and again!

It's damned annoying!! :O(

Is your mouse optical or does it have a ball? Turn the mouse over, optical mice have a red LED underneath, ball mice have a ball (obviously). If it's optical try using it on a white sheet of paper. If this cures the problem then your mouse doesn,t like where it is being used. A more sensitive mouse may be better, or use a plain mouse mat.

If it's a ball mouse, the rollers may need cleaning, although dirty rollers normally result in jerky or no movement rather than the symptoms you describe.

My mouse runs the oposite way, up and down for some strange reason, battery not needed but I did discover that it only happens at meal times so if I feed my mouse on time I guess it will stop happening.

it is not a wireless mouse I know that because he wears headfones

Following on from Marcus's tip on dirty rollers inside the tacker ball area, if only one of the rolleers is dirty this could create the fault you have. To clean the rollers remove the ball and use Isopropyl alchohol on a cotton bud to clean the rollers. Hope this helps.

Hi Wendy Norfolk

Like Marcus says, if you have a mouse with a rubber ball underneath, take the ball out, by unscrewing the holder, you will see three rollers dust grime collects on these from the mouse pad , I remove mine with a biro top clip, It can be a bit fiddly, need a spot of patience, It normally collects in the middle of the rollers , need to keep turning the roller to remove all the dirt, Its like a brand new mouse when you complete.

Thanks for all your advice folks!

I will get hubby to take the mouse apart and clean the balls for me, on looking at my mouse mat it stands to reason dirt could be the culprit. My mat is pretty grotty looking, so maybe I'll get a new one of those as well!!
