Aquaroll valve

I posted a note some time ago about fitting a mains valve to an aquaroll. I did not get round to doing it at the time but I think it was a Torbeck valve available then from Screwfix. They do not seem to show this in recent catalogue but there are some in the Toolstation one. Anyone done this and can they point to me to the correct type, (seem to be various types, side/bottom entry, compact etc. I don't want to guess which one and find it will not pass through the filler hole.

I know Aquaroll do one, but about 35 quid for the valve only, or 50 odd for the complete kit. I already have hose from a Whale van kit which no longer fits my current van.

Many thanks.

Mine would not go through the aquaroll opening but if you undo the large nut and turn body through 180 degrees then discard the plastic tube it fits fine

Bill,

You could alwasys use this http://www.care-avan.co.uk/Product%20Mains%20water%20adapter%20ball%20valve.html a bit more expensive but fully made up with the aquaroll cap & ready for use & cheaper than the aquaroll one!

The torbek side connection valve will only fit the cap of the 40litre aquaroll. You will find the float fits on a sort of spiral plastic rod, and you need to cut the top of this off, leaving the float on the shortest possible arm.

Make a hole centrally in the cap and fasten the valve with the backnot supplied getting it a tight as you can. Before doing this, put the cap on the roll, side connection of course, and do it up as tight as you can by hand. Then mark the "12 oclock" position on the cap. Ensure thay you fit the valve so that it moves vertically along the imaginary 12 oclock to 6 oclock line.

Fit the end of the valve stem with a standard brass adapter to take plug-on hose fittings (Hozelock or the brass equivalent - better).

You may have to introduce the float end of the valve into the aquaroll at an angle but once in, screw the cap up, making sure your 12 oclock mark comes back where it should.

All this is far easier to do than to describe - I'm beginning to have some sympathy with those who write instruction leaflets.

I am beginning to think I have the wrong valve, it is exactly as web link advised by JohnG but the float (a square one)measures about 68mm across the diagonal whereas the hole in the Aquaroll (40 litre) is 60mm. The valve is a side connection Torbeck Ecofill which has chamber around the float. The measurement above are of the actual float not the chamber which is bigger still but looks if it could be removed. HELP

Its difficult to say without looking at it but it does seem to be wrong from what you say

Is it possible to remove the float and fit a smaller one?

sorry if I gave you the wrong information

Look at www.toolstation.com part 42876. The vertical tube shwon is in fact a thin flexible plstic sleeve which can be removed for this application. It is for "silencing" the loo tank when refilling.

Thanks for all the info. The valve I have has a square float, I will have to see if I can modify it down to 60mm some way. I see that it is not like the old type sealed float, it is basically an inverted cup that floats by means of the air trapped inside, diving bell style. Nothing lost in a bit of butchering to reshape it. The e-bay one I assume is a cheaper alternative to the Hitchman purpose made valve rather than a standard wc cistern valve. Thanks Deli Dave, would appreciate e-mail. I have to quietly sort this out, can't tell 'er indoors I have spent 8 & 1/2 quid on something that is wrong.
