Hi all. I am new to this site and have just returned from a week in the lakes with my new digital freeview tv but was unable to watch it as I could not get a signal most days. At the moment we are working with the ariel we used with our old analogue tv which almost always got a signal. I will spend the money to get the correct ariel but would like advice on which product to buy. We drive a small VW van & therefore would like something we could take on and off. Please help! Many thanks.

hello h

we use a 3 piece mast, bought from the local caravan dealer shop and it clamps to the A frame of our van....im sure that you could sort out something that you would be able to clamp it to you camper van bumper.....we bought a cheap tv ariel from wilkinsons to mount on the mast, its an ariel for low signals and it only cost a tenner and a few quid for some coax and plug.when you get onto a camp site, just have a look at where all the other vans ariels are pointing and you should be ok

If your existing aerial worked OK with analogue TV it will work perfectly well with DTTV.

Question: did you try your TV in analogue mode whilst in the Lakes? It may just be that there was no signal where you were. Also Cumbria is in the process of migration to DTTV only so you may have landed in the middle of that.

If you know exactly where you were, go to

www.wolfbane.co.uk

and input the map reference. It will tell you whether or not TV is available at that location.

The lakes is a bad area for tv reception & it may well be that on the same site a large ariel would not be much better. I would invest in a suitcase satelite system that will work anywhere except when your pitch is very close to tall trees.
