I am the proud owner of a Sterling Europa 500/5 which i picked up from Kimberley Caravans on Saturday : )

I spent much of the weekend pressing buttons and running through setting her up however i came unstuck when putting the bunk up at the far end.

According to the user manual, which i resorted to after half an hour of cripton factor style cushion rearranging, i should "Arrange cushion's appropriatly".

None of them seem to fit. I have checked under the seat and in all cupboards and there doesnt seem to be an additional matress for this bunk.

Help!

Ok let me reohrase the question do any of you have a 5 berth caravan where the end can be made into 1 double with a bunk over the top?

Where is the matress hidden?

stephen, we also had this problem first time we tried out the layout. i posted similar to you and got replies saying to look under the bed lockers etc, i did and the foam matresses were there, i see you have already said you dont have them. only thing you can do is contact the seller buddy :)

If the bunk bed is made from seat cushions then they will be already there, or the absense would be obvious. However, if it is an upper bunk then there may not be cushions as such. Often these types of bunk are made from canvas and this may be tucked behind the backrest. They are designed for small children only.

The other posssibly dumb comment is that your manual may be applicable to more than one model, although you state your model subscxript is '5' which implies 5 berths.

When in doubt call the dealer and ask. He may have forgiotten something, it does happen.

I have checked beneath the seats but not behind the back rest, everything else is sport on and im chomping at the bit to get out there.

My children are 4 and 16 months so the next issue i have is stopping the 16month year old climbing out of bed.

I must say Kimberly Caravans were superb from start to finish and as a first time caravanner didnt make me feel inferior as other showrooms did.

Thanks all for your responses.

I assume you have a double dinette where the rear makes up to a double bed and the bunk runs across the rear of the van? We always used to have this layout when the children were very young (from 8 weeks on. The bunk should have it's own matress which folds and stores under the seats - I would suggest that this is missing - if you have bought second hand it may be that the prev owners did not use the bunk and stored the matress at home so they had more room under the seats. Your dealer will have to contact them asap and get it in. As to sleeping arrangements then the 4 year old could go up in the bunk and I would suggest the 16 month old goes in the double bed underneath the bunk with either mom or dad at the side where the edge is. Probably safer than mom and dad trying to sleep together down the other end!

we have a 3 year old and are due to have another baby any day. we own a 5 berth van, a twin dinette with a single bunk across the back. we have been advised previously against using the single bunk (which should come with its own cushions) for a child under 5 and for peace of mind haven't used it for our 3 yr old. we have used the dinette as 2 single beds, our 3 yr old loves his own single bed and we used a bed guard (with the back rest of the sofa propped up against the bed guard) as added protection, up to about 6 mths ago. we now plan to do the same with the new baby on the other sofa (using a baby sleeping bag) when we start caravanning again later on in the season. best of luck.

Thanks All, i have ransacked the caravan this evening and definatly no dedicated bunk covers so i will be phoning the dealer in the morning.

I had thought about buying some screw in press studs and fashioning a mesh material side like that found in a travel cot across the back wall. Being 16 months if he could get out and go for a walk he would so your average bed guard wouldnt do the trick.

No help with the cushion arranging but we have a 4 year old and an 18month old and we also use the 2 dinette seats as single beds. The 4 year old therefore has her own bed with a sleeping bag and the 18 month old has the other with a bed guard which we fold down under the seat in the day. It works great and no-need to worry about the older one falling out of the bed and no faffing with bunks at night! good luck
