Auto, without doubt, but then I've advocated auto transmission for evertone for years now. Why work harder than you need to.

I have an 04 XS auto and it is very relaxing to drive and the 5 speed box takes the work out of pitching up the van, or in heavy traffic. The box has a mmanual select so you can hold it in a gaer for hill descents etc. I get 30-32mpg solo and 22-24mpg towing a 1400kg van. Off to France this weekend for 4 weeks and the Sorrie is all there raedy to go and looking absolutely pristine!!

Having had 2 Kia Sorentos, 1. manual & 1. 5 speed auto.

I can safely say that the difference in average fuel consumption was 8 mpg 33mpg manual, 25mpg auto. However, I have recently had an update done on the cruise control which appears to have improved the return. since this has been done I have only use 1 tank full so I am unsure if this was a one off or a permanent change.

My Uncle has just swapped a manual Sorento for a 5 speed auto with manual select.

He told me its great, the select mode takes the pressure off the brakes down hill. He also said the MPG was lower but didn't put a figure on it.
