Avondale Avocet awning rail height

Hi all, a close friend of ours has bought an Avocet and would like to also buy a Sunncamp type porch awning for it. Because apparantly the rail height is slightly lower, they have been advised that they don't fit well. Anyone here that can offer advices please?
Being 4-5" lower would, in my opinion, mean splaying the side walls a little to "loose" the extra side wall height.
 
I have a 1998 Avocet and that has a 'boat' shaped roof with considerably lower awning rail height. I had trouble getting a porch awning for it, but as the van is currently in storage I can't measure the height. With newer Avocets the roof is flat and the awning rail height should be near standard. Hope this helps.
