I have an Abi ACE Viceroy 1986ish which came with an awning but it is ripped and I would like to replace it.

Has anyone ever had one of these and would be able to tell me what is the correct awning size for this caravan?

Also how do you put an awning up?

I am new to caravanning and I don't want to look stupid struggling to try and put the awning up!!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Richard . welcome to the wonderful world of caravaning.

Right first of all you need to take a length of string and start from one side from the ground and then run it round your awning channel to ground the opposite side , then measure your length of string from gound side one side to the other this will give you awning size in cm.. there are many outlets for awnings and a good place to start is Ebay they on there regularly, if you buy new follow the instructions to put it together dont worry about putting your awning up on site for the first time as no doubt you will get an onlooker come over and give you a helping hand .

Aftwer all we are a friendly bunch.

Enjoy your caravan .Stewart

Hi Richard

Go to the website for pyramid products and they have a demo video on how to put up their awning. Having had a few different types over the years you will find that they are all basically the same, just that the poles differ.

Stewart is also quite right about the help as I have had to assist a few lost souls myself.

A wee tip is before you get to the campsite layout your poles in the garden studying the diagram. when you have all the poles in the right order use colour tape to mark them up.

ie; start at one end with say blue, the front piece next to this red and so on. where the blue meets the red put one of each colour on this end of the pole.

When you get on site lay the poles out on the ground before you do anything else. ( should have mentoined that since this is an older van you may want to lubricate the inside of the awning rail with some furniture polish first ).

Slide the roof canvas onto the van ( I normally do this from the back first). When you have got it on check the distance from the ground to the peg points is the same at each side. ( this is very important because once you have the poles up it is'nt realistic to try and even it out ). Then pop up the poles and attach the sides. Send wife into caravan to make the coffee and start to peg out the straps.
