Hi
We are looking at getting a full size awning for our van. The one we are looking at has the zip out panels all round. We are also wanting to get one of the bedroom annex extensions so my question is can you buy any old annex to fit or do you have to consider the length/height of the awning etc. Basically what considerations have to be made before I buy the annex part.
Many Thanks!

Generally, annexes need to come from the same manufacturer as the awning did due to zip lengths and number of teeth per inch. However, I have seen annexes advertised as "will fit any awning" and these appear to be attached to the frame and not zipped in.
If somebody has a "fit any" annex then they will be able to say what it's like.

hi, Francis,
if you have not bought a awning yet it may be wise to ask about annexes from the supplier at the time of ordering because all annexes are not the same, some are tall some short some fit into the zip out panel and some dont, plus different manufacurers use different Zips
or if buying secondhand look for one that has the annex included.
we have been looking for a annex for our dorema sirocco awning for 2 years without any luck . it is the type that only fits on one side with the complete end section of the awning sewn in, and has no zip out panel, they are quite rare now especialy with the opti zip never mind one in the right colour,
my advice would be to buy one with the awning not wait until after but if you do have to buy the awning first ask loads of questions about annexes before you buy to make sure it will fit.

Hi
Thanks to you both for the advice. The particular awning I am looking at is a 2nd hand one from Glossop Caravans in Derbyshire. I havn't actually saw it but I am buying it over the phone I notice on their website that they also sell annexes so mabye when I am on the phone to them I can ask them if they have any of the extensions in stock that would be suitable for the awning that I have chosen.
Many Thanks!

We got our current awning plus annexe from Glossop. We bought it as a package and got it for a good price because they were selling off their "survived the fire" stock. I would concur about trying to get the annexe that goes with the awnining. These alleged universal annexes tend to get bad commentsabout not fitting and leaks. We found Glossop very helpful; talk to them.

we have a couple of the unversal annexes that we used to use on the old awning ( have changed van and awning with 2 full size annexes now).
They where good and served us well for the time we used them , they attach on to the end poles of your awning the look ok but I dont think you can beat the proper fitting annexes.
I am glad you bought this subject up as I must dig them out and stick them on E.bay

Hi Francis
We have bought awnings off ebay in the past, you will often see them for sale with the annexe and or groundsheet included,if you know your size and the makes you are considering you can find bargains, especially the ones that show a "buy it now price" and some of them are advertised by caravan dealers who are looking to move previous years models or ex display that are technically new.
