Is there such a thing? We're away in the winter and wondered if there was anything that could be used to keep the awning above freezing!!

I've used a fan heater for years. It keeps the chill off nicely. My son and his wife slept in our awning this weekend in all the gales and didn't complain.
W e were actually in Warwickshire, Lisa. We used our standard 2.5 metre awning, as the big one would have taken too much to heat. We then had a normal cotton inner tent with built-in groundsheet. On top of the groundsheet we put an insulated Welsh wool picnic rug, then their airbed, and duck-down sleeping bag. The fan heater was about three feet away from the inner tent, blowing toward it. Their comment next morning, (Saturday)was "snug as bugs".I think the answer is in the packing underneath.
Anyway, we all had a great weekend. We boys went to the NEC classic car show, and the girls did some retail therapy.Smashing meal in the Malt Shovel in Gaydon in the evening, back to the van for a drop of amber fluid. What more could you want?

There are kits available to add an outlet from your gas fired heater, but it is really questionable if it is worth it.
A fan heater may make a a degree or two difference but due to the total surface area of an awing, the low thermal insulation and the number of air leaks, it really is going to be quite difficult to make a substantial difference.
You may find that one of infra-red/quartz type heaters may be better, as heater only heat objects the 'light' can see.

Sorry John, but I must disagree there. It will take time to warm up the awning, but with the fan heater on all night, the temp on Saturday morning was 19degrees. The heaters you recommend are only good for sitting directly in front of, and if you do that the glare is so bright that you can't see! You also have the problem that people keep telling you that your awning's on fire!

Where are you going Lisa? We're off to Thursford on 2nd December, to Brick Kilns, then Sctland for new year.
We have always used a small oil filled heater in our porch awning in winter. It is a 800 watt one and keeps the awning warm enough that we can hang coats out there.

No! No! don't go to the Costa del Sol, I work in a power station, please keep using your heaters, it will keep me in work for years!!!!

When you are on EHU during the summer you still pay the same for your pitch,
Do you expect the site owner to give you a refund for not using enough electric ?
It's swings & roundabouts the site owners win in the summer & loose a little in the winter,

i pay for my ehu so i use it we have a fan heater thats got a temp cut off and restarts when it drops cheap from instore
