Awning Length

Looking to change my caravan and I see on some ads, the awning length of a van at,say, 18m
If I measure along my awning rail and down to floor at either end, which I believe is the correct way.
how much leeway is there on awning length? This might save me including my awning in sale and
then having to buy a new one.
 
You could always have it altered have a look through some of these posts
