Awning Mudwalls

When you put up awnings should the mudwalls fold into the awning space or out? In the past I've always had my mud walls tucked in and put my ground sheet over the top to try and keep the elements and creepy crawlies out, put looking on ebay at awnings for our new van, people seem to have them outside, which is the proper way?

Hi Mike,

we have the plastic mud walls on the inside of the awning so they lie flat on the floor. Then the ground sheet sits over the top of it so no draft comes in from there. Our awning has an extra skirt on the outside so the rain runs away from the walls of the awning.

Our old awning had two mudwalls with the pegs in between the two. The inner walls went under the groundsheet and the outer walls shed the rain away from the awning itself. Our current awning has only one mudwall - tucked in if wet weather is expected, left out if it's dry. We usually holiday in France and don't often put the side panels in the awning, so the latter (outwards) is usual for us. Creepy crawlies are impossible to avoid, so we don't even try.

Hi Mike,

The hard and fast rule is 'check your installation instructions', each awning manufacturer has different rules. Isabella states "mudflap inboard' for example, and shows how to do it on there web site.

So go to the web site of your awning maker, I'm sure they will say how to 'peg the mudflap'!
