I have a Dorema awning that I had off ebay. The awning is perfect but it came with plastic pegs, all brandnew. I am not sure plastic will stand up to the job on some of the hard standing sites. Does anyone have any idea what pegs I should replace them with that will last.

we have some long plastic ones that we found ar good in loose sandy soils and some strong rock pegs from Jacksons of Old Arley, but from any large dealer or internet as suggested, postage would be expensive i would think as they are quite heavy.

Ex-Army stores are good for 'proper' metal pegs.

The plastic ones supplied with most awnings are a waste of space, only really suitable for good weather camping, and you don't want to be getting up at 3am in the height of an unexpected strong wet gale to find this out.

My advice would be to use metal pegs all round, and get 12"- 15" metal ones with attached rings for the corner and central guy ropes.

Hi Tugster

I learnt my lesson the hard way a few years ago. See other threads on pegs. I always use my 8" screw pegs. They have withstood some pretty fierce gales and never let us down.

They can be used in grass or hardstandings and are easy to hammer in. Th beauty is they unscrew with the cordless drill and socket adapter which is supplied. Pulling dozens of ordinary pegs out of the ground is a real back breaker.

Cheers

Alan

Since we have an awning that pegs down both inside and out we always use rock pegs on the outer skirt but can get away with using plastic ones on the inside. Much kinder if you catch toes on them. If you use the metal pegs outside close to the doorways, etc., I would suggest you purchase a couple of tennis balls, cut them in half and place over the 'pegs' that could cause a problem.
