Awning Poles

We have just come back from a great weekend at Cullen Caravan park Morayshire.

We have a suncamp portch awning with three fibre glass poles.

Due to heavy winds we had to take the awning down, the elastic string in one of the poles snapped.

Can you replace this? Can you use the poles without the string?

We are going away again this weekend so I would like to put it right before we go.

Thanks

Hi Jacqui,

If your poles are like ours yes you can replace the elastic and you can use them in the meantime without the elastic (it's only there to keep the poles together in storage).

If you have the elastic you can repair it. It is usually the metal clip holding the ends together that pulls out. if you have all the parts, open the metal clip, put both ends of the elastic into it and grip it up TIGHT. The trick is then to get it back in the pole. I use an old wire coat hanger (about 20cm) with a L in the end about 5mm long. This allows you to push the elastic down the pole and release it once it is caught behind the plastic clip inside the pole.

Hope this makes sense.
