I need to replace the plastic ends of the awning poles for my Isabella awning. The poles are carbon and I am having trouble detaching the old ends. I don't want to use a wrench as I may damage the pole.

Does any one know of a penetrating oil that I can use to loosen the end without damaging the pole

I used an old box spanner ( tubed sort) that just fitted over the pole but fouled the plastic end. Careful tapping around successfully removed the plastic. Do not hold the carbon fibre x pole in a vice. You may break it!

They are an interference fit. You need piece of wood/copper that will go down the inside of the pole. Push it down and gently bang the end bit off. To fit the replacement juts push it in.

You have to push them out, you will need a long stiff strong rod, I used a a section of an old metal clothes maiden and pushed the end out by inserting the rod through the pole and hammering it, this way the only damage will be to the stiff rod.

They are too stiff to get out any other way and you risk damaging the pole.

I was once in a situation when I cut mine off with a junior hacksaw, nothing around at the time to push it out. It meant that my pole lost at bit of length but there is still a good 17 inches left. I am talking about roof poles here. J.Lo
