Awning too small for new caravan

Our present awning (2005 Bradcot Classic) is 888cm and one to fit our new caravan needs to be 990cm. Is it feasible to have inserts put into our existing awning? Has anyone had this done and if so, which company did it, what did it look like and would you recommend having this done or should we cut our losses and sell it and get a new one?

Thanks Curtis, Rob-T and RogerL for your replies. We hadn't heard of Triopair and on reading their website, they sound a good company.

Yes, RogerL, we did wonder whether it might be too high a jump in size and may not look right. I think we will have to buy a new one.

Ho Hum.....anyone looking for a Bradcot Classic 888cm (fits a 2-berth 3yr Swift Charisma 230, also for sale)?

I agree that to have 51cm added to each side is probably too much. Many years ago, Trio recommended (I think) no more than 30cm per side. I am sure you are aware that it's only the rear that is altered and the front remains as is therefore the sides splay out a little when extended.

Another idea would be to have your existing awning altered to make a very large porch awning. I did this with an Isabella awning (altered by Scottish Mountain Gear in Musselburgh, Scotland Tel 0131 653 1310. Gordon Grosset was very helpful).

The amended awning fits into the awning rail at the front and along the roof but falls vertically at the right hand side. Obviously it isn't fastened to the caravan at the right but we haven't been bothered with wind blowing in. We do actually have another full size awning but use the altered one for preference as it's easier to erect single handed. You do need to measure carefully to determine where the awning turns down but we were only charged c.

Hi, just had our classic enlarged from 900 to 930. Cant notice the difference and still has no sags or creases. We used the Canvas repair centre and they collected the awning and it was delivered back 5 days later. The awning is 2007 so had the shiny finish roof and they matched the fabric the same. Would highly recommend them. Have used the awning since in continous rain and wind and have had no problems.

Hope this helps

Ian

Thanks for the detailed replies, Malcolm L & Ian - Swift.

We have given it a lot of thought and think that increasing the size from 888cm to 990cm may be just too much, so we will reluctantly sell it and get a new Classic in the bigger size.
