Have you got any tips when putting it up?

In addition to Spoket's guide one word of warning.

More holiday domestics arise because of an awning erection :silly:
Just ensure you both talk the same language and stay cool. B)

Looking at the instructions and videos on line most say that the roof poles fit into bracket pads that either slide or clip into position on the awning bead. mine looks like it just has to rubber ends that don't seem to fit into anything ?

Yes, rubber suckers are what some manufacturers used. It is an older system design, but still functional.

Edit - the suckers do however rely on the van sides being smooth and not a dimpled design such that they hold in place when the awning is erected.

Hi ed325i,
I have been using the same NR Capricorn full awning on my van for the last 8 years.... it gets a lot of use, and so far has never let a drop of water in.

The awning was over 10 years old when I got it, so it has been in service now for coming up for 19 years...
NR awnings are very helpful in supplying things like replacement rubber suckers or the plastic pole extender locks.

I reckon they must be a top quality awning, if my experience is anything to go by.
Usual disclaimers etc
Happy Caravanning

It fits :) was easy to put up. The suckers don't suck as side of van isn't flat. It didn't come with any guy ropes so can anyone recommend a tie down kit.

Shame about the suckers. :(

Be careful with tie down kits, it is advised that you don't just put a large strap up and over the the outside as it can damage the frame and canvas. There may be loops in the corners to add normal guy lines, else use ratchet straps and screw in anchors on strong points on joints on the inside of the awning.

Don't worry about the suckers not sucking..strange to say but they don't have to!

Their main job is to provide a reasonably non slip interface between the end of the poles and the sides of the caravan.....and of course to act as a load spreader for the point loading that would otherwise result.

It's the tension created between the poles and the awnings canvas and other tie down points that keeps it all in place and rigid.

I tend to use tent guy ropes at both ends of my awning augmented in heavy weather with a tie down strap ( often known as a storm strap).... with this set up I've never had any troubles.....ever.
Fingers crossed that the next 40 years or so of caravanning will be the same!

Regards

I recall from my NR awning the "suckers " are not suckers at all. They are a cushioned device to tension the awning roof against the side of the caravan.
A ribbed panel shouldn't affect their performance. They work on pressure tension rather than suction.
A bit like a clutch if you like.
The most efficient storm straps I have seen come from the Isabella camp.
You get two 18 " heavy duty metal pegs that get well hammered into the ground in each corner. A heavy duty seatbelt type strap then goes around the roof side poles thus holding the entire frame to the ground.
I am very much against the type of straps that go over the awning roof.
