I would be grateful for any advice, having had one of the cheap rip stop porches granted we were new to caravanning the condensation was terrible, we opted to buy a full dorema awning (montana)then my wife and myself got rheumatoid athritis, so we sold the full awning and bought a hilton porch (you need to be a contortion artist to put up one of these)but we still struggled, now we are thinking of getting a sport plus type or I am considering buying a sun canopy having seen one at a camp site last week (the gentleman was packing up so I could not talk to him) the one I am considering is in the dorema brochure called solana, does anyone have any experience of these what we are worried about is the wind whipping inside causing damage, every time we have gone out we seem to attract the strong winds, granted i have storm straps, putting a sun canopy up both my wife and I should be able to manage putting a canopy up despite our joint problems.

thank you

david

Hi David

We have had full awnings in the past, including a lightweight weekend porch awning. All have their good points but we now just wanted something quick and easy and basically something to keep the chairs dry when left out. We have just bought from Dorema a Capri sun canopy. This is basically an oblong roof which just fits into the awning rail and is supported with three upright steel poles. The canopy is available in different sizes. We used it for the first time last week and it was a doddle to erect, very lightweight and quick to do.

I cannot say yet what it would be like in a wind but we would add extra tie down ropes if necessary. The other canopy we liked the look of was also Dorema, similar to the Capri but having sides in. We saw one of these erected last week and it did look good. I think either one would be manageable for you and it really depends on just how much 'cover' you think you need. Hope this helps.
