hi
after the snow we had destroyed our awning im looking to buy a new one not sure whether to go for a full awning again or go for a large porch awning, wondering what awnings people recommend, our caravan is permanantly pitched on a site and is a 640/6 in size. this year we will be taking the awning down early as the snow caught us out this winter as where we live we had a couple of inches of snow but where the van was sited they had around 2 foot of snow which collapsed the awning resulting in too much damage to repair to the awning luckily the caravan wasnt damaged.

Hiya, yes the snow certainly caught us all out I think.
I have both porch and full awnings (practically Brand new) and have not paid full price for either, I use a website called PRELOVED.co.uk, you have to keep an eye on it but you can find now end of caravaning items at reasonable prices and I have found all by seller to be lovely people. My first caravan came from there too.
You have to go with your instincts as to what is best, happy shopping

Personally if my van was sited I would want a full awning. We did have a porch awning but we sold it as we found there wasn't much difference in the time required to put it up, but the extra space is well worth it.
We have a Walker Esprit (I think), and it is a great awning - I would definately get another if needed......

This weekend I found myself in Glossop caravan awning shop, "just for a look". Before I quite knew what happened we were leaving with a new awning; discounted as it was "pre fire " stock. It is a PEAK awning which seems to be a precurser of the outdoor revolution New wave awning. It is a full awning, and I got a low annexe with inner tent and carbon poles for what seemed like a very good price. Now I may have been fleeced mercilessly by the sales guy or I actually got a bargain. You may want to give them a call. (probably safer than a visit unless you are more sales resistent than me). BTW I have no connection with the place, just a slightly bewildered and possibly happy customer. I haven't got the thing out of its box yet so I will wait and see.
